Adventure PAWS – Frequently Asked Questions

Can any dog join Adventure PAWS?

We’d love to adventure with every dog, but creating a safe, positive experience for the whole pack is our top priority. To participate, dogs should be at least, around one year old—this ensures they're physically developed and have a solid foundation in basic training.
While perfect social skills aren’t required, your dog should be able to remain calm around other dogs, new people, and unfamiliar environments. We also ask that all dogs have a reliable recall—they don’t need to be flawless, but they should come when called, even with exciting distractions like other dogs or wildlife.
We welcome the use of well-conditioned training tools, such as e-collars, to support reliable recall. If your dog finds car rides stressful, we recommend working on confidence-building beforehand, as they’ll need to be comfortable traveling to and from the trail.
New pups will join us for a trial adventure so we can get to know them. If we feel your dog isn’t quite ready for our adventures, we’ll happily offer a refund and recommend some next steps to help them succeed in a future off-leash environment.
Can you pick up my dog from outside of town?

Yes, we can! While our main service area is Haines Junction, we do offer pickups outside this zone for dogs joining us on full-day adventures. Additional fees may apply depending on the distance. If you have friends, family, or a drop-off spot closer to us, we’re happy to coordinate something that works for everyone.
Can I drop my dog off early or late?

To keep things running smoothly and ensure our pack gets the most out of their time on the trail, we aren’t able to accommodate early or late drop-offs in the morning. Our adventure bus leaves right on time, so we appreciate your punctuality!
How can I follow along on my dog’s adventure?

We love sharing the joy! You can follow your dog’s day out with us on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok where we regularly post updates, photos, and trail stories. It’s the next best thing to being there with them!
Do dogs ever run off or chase wildlife?

We’re in the Yukon wilderness, so there are always natural risks—but we take every precaution to keep our pack safe. Our experienced team relies on solid recall training, careful behavior screening, and safety tools like biothane long lines and tabs to reduce the risk of dogs chasing wildlife or wandering off. That said, it’s important that all guardians are confident in their dog’s recall and understand the nature of off-leash adventures.
What areas do you serve?

Adventure PAWS is based in Dakwäkäda-Haines Junction, and we proudly serve the surrounding community.
Are there temperature cut-offs?

Definitely. The Yukon can be wild when it comes to weather! For everyone’s safety, we follow strict temperature guidelines.
-
We won’t run adventures below -30°C (or -33°C with windchill).
-
If it drops below -25°C or climbs above +25°C, we may shorten the hike.
Please make sure your dog is dressed for the day—coats, booties, and reflective or light-up gear are essential in extreme conditions. Select gear is available for purchase through us if needed.

How can I prepare my dog for their Adventure?

To help your dog get the most out of their day, here are a few quick tips:
-
Skip breakfast: Unless your dog needs a morning meal for medical reasons, we recommend skipping it on hike days. It helps reduce the risk of bloat and keeps your dog motivated.
-
Bathroom break: Please give your dog a chance to relieve themselves before drop-off.
-
Ready to roll: Bring your dog on-leash and in a calm, focused mindset—this sets them up for a smooth transition to the trail.
-
Dress for success: Booties, coats, and reflective gear are highly recommended in chilly or low-light conditions.
How do I pay, and what happens if we miss an adventure?

We offer simple, flexible payment options through our Wix online invoicing system. You can pay per hike or opt for a monthly invoice—whichever works best for you. Payment can be made by credit card or e-transfer.
If your dog can’t make it to their scheduled hike, just let us know as soon as you can. We get that life happens, and we’ll do our best to work with you. Thanks for being part of the Adventure PAWS family—we’re so happy to have you with us!
